Will a rodent in the attic have a nest of babies?

When a rodent gets into your home, he or she is primarily looking for three different things. The first of these is to find shelter. Animals need a place to live just as you do. Your attic could make the ideal location for them to get a spot to live, primarily because this is a place that offers them relative solitude. Few people spend time in their attic, so a raccoon, rat, mouse, squirrel, or possum could live in your attic for a long period of time in relative obscurity.

Rodents are also looking for food. While your house may not have the food they desire, it is probably around your home in some form or fashion. Whether you are talking about your garbage can, your pet dish, or even your garden, there are options around your home that pose a palatable option for these rodents to find food. Add to it the fact that you have food in your kitchen cabinets, and it is easy to see why these critters would come around your house and want to stay there.

The last reason that a rodent would want to be in your house is because it provides security. Because they are likely living in your attic without garnering much attention, they are safe from human beings and from predators that may have hunted them in your yard. The hawk, fox, or dog is not going to get at a raccoon or squirrel living inside your attic. They will feel fairly safe and secure here, which gives them the ideal place to build a nest in which to live.

Those three factors are important for one other reason. If the rodent has a safe place to live, a place to sleep, and food to get, then your attic will then become that rodent’s nursery. The truth is that your attic could be the ideal location for these critters to live in. It does not matter what kind of rodent that you are talking about, your attic offers them the perfect location.

Think about this for a moment. The one primary reason that most people go into their attic is to store items that they would like to keep for later. This can mean such things as close, blankets, newspaper, or books are all stored in the attic area. They are keepsakes and mementos that people want to have around for later on in life.

However, all of those things pose an enticing array of nesting options for your rodent. Just think about how your wedding dress, college books, or tax papers would be so ideal to build a bed out of. They can be torn up and shredded so that they can be perfectly molded to fit exactly the way that the rodent needs it before having its young. Now the dress from your most special day has become the birthing blanket for these rodents. This is why it is important for you to do a regular check through your attic.
