What wild animals can destroy the wood on your house?

The sad part about owning a home is that other animals can decide that your house would make the ideal residence for them as well. It is not uncommon to find such creatures as snakes, birds, bats, possums, raccoons, squirrels, rats, and other kinds of animals that have gotten into your home and are living within the walls, the basement, or the attic of your house.

These animals can be quite destructive in many ways, but most of the destruction that they cause is to things that can be replaced. You may not like the fact that they’ve gotten into your food or into your old clothing, but these are things that can be replaced by you without much of a hassle.

However, there are instances where some wild animals can cause serious damage to the structure of your home. One of the most common of these is when an animal starts to bite on the wood that helps to create the foundational structure of the house. Then, you will have a serious issue in terms of what this can do to the overall stability of your house. This can make you ask what wild animals can destroy the wood of your house?

To answer this question, you first have to begin by looking at the kind of animals where gnawing on things is part of their daily life. Rodents are the most common animals that fall into this category. Little critters such as rats, squirrels, and other creatures of this nature will commonly chew on things because it helps to strengthen their teeth and make them healthier. Your wood beams would be the ideal source for them to chew on to strengthen their teeth.

This may be great for them, but it is not helping your home in any way. It is true that a single rat or squirrel is not going to cause a significant amount of damage, but considering the fact that rats often live in huge colonies this is where you have a serious issue. If dozens or hundreds of rats are chewing on the same board, then it will not be long before they can cause some serious problems to the wood of your house.

Animals chewing on your home is not the only problem you face. You also have the concern of the feces and urine that these animals leave behind. Many times, this waste will contain bacteria and parasites that are released from the animal whenever it relieves itself. What will happen is that this bacteria and virus will get into the wood of your house creating a serious health risk to you and your family.

You also have to worry about the fact that urine can lead to mold building up on the wood of your house, which poses an extremely serious health risk to everyone in your household. If you know that there are wild animals that are living in your house, it is imperative that you take every step possible to get them out as quickly as possible. Read more: Florida Wildlife Control
