Will a high pitch sound deterrent machine work against skunks?

If you have a skunk that is making the rounds near your home you definitely want to get rid of this beast. The last thing you want is to head out into your backyard one evening only to come upon the surprised skunk. It will take quite some time to get the smell out after it sprays you, and no one will want to be around you.

Even your pet can prey victim to this beast. You let the dog go out to go the bathroom and the next thing you know it is getting sprayed and you almost want to consider getting a new dog. In addition, if your dog comes into contact with the skunk’s waste or is scratched by the animal it can become sick and you may have some serious issues. Getting rid of that skunk is very critical.

While there are many remedies that people employ, the one that is starting to gain traction with many people is the use of a high pitch generating sound machine that can scare the skunks away. This is all the rage as many want to opt for the more technological ideas.

On its surface, this idea sounds like it could be quite plausible. Skunks have exceptional hearing, so it would seem that creating some kind of noise that would be irritating to the animal would be a great way to get rid of it. It sounds great but is not a good solution at all.

For this to effectively work you cannot just submit some low frequency wave and expect it to work over a long distance of time. Even ten feet away from the speaker, the sound may have lost a lot of its power, meaning that it will have no impact on the skunk at all.

What you would have to do to even have some kind of impact is to put speakers at the property line of your home, all around the property. Think about how costly that would be! In addition, those speakers would be subject to the weather, meaning they could get damaged quite easily.

You must also consider that irritating a skunk does not mean that it is going away. This is not like kryptonite to Superman. The skunk may find the noise irritating, but think what happens when you blow a dog whistle. The animal does not run away. In fact, it comes closer to you. Is that what you want the skunk doing? Lord no!

There are much better options out there and this one and that is what you need to look into. You are pretty much wasting your time and money otherwise. Look into those alternatives and keep that horrible skunk away. Read more: Skunk Control, how to kill skunks.
