If you have a
problem with skunks around your home, you are
probably looking for any way you can to try to
get rid of them. It is not just that you are
worried about them spraying you, but are also
worried about the parasites and diseases that
they carry. Even their feces and urine can be a
hazard, making them one of the worst animals
that one can have around their property.
The problem is trying to figure out a way to get
rid of this beast. You could try to do so
yourself, but the options that are available are
not necessarily things that you would find
palatable as options. You don’t want to get
close to the skunk to try to trap it or scare it
off. You may get sprayed. You don’t want to kill
it, because they will release their spray and
your property will stink anyway. You also don’t
want to just scare them off, because they can
return. This doesn’t give many options for do it
yourself kind of stuff.
You could call a professional to do the job, but
that could be costly. Depending upon the area
you live in, you may have to pay quite a bit of
money to get the professional to come out and
remove your skunk. That may be your only option,
but before deciding on this option it may pay to
see if your county or city animal control may
remove the skunk for you.
In all honesty, this is a long shot. Most animal
controls centers do not see these as dangerous
animals. While they do carry a lot of diseases
and parasites, they are not like a wolf or a
bear that will likely attack anyone they come
across. These animals they will come out and get
right away.
The skunk does not fall into this class of
animals so it is likely that they will not come
to get them, however in some areas they will do
so. It pays to call and see.
The one time that you can be sure that they will
come is if it is apparent that the animal is
quite sick with something like rabies. If you
see that it is foaming at the mouth and acting
very erratic, the animal control will in most
cases come out. Because of the danger that this
animal poses, they do not want to leave this
animal out because it can make other animals and
people sick from the disease. This can be very
dangerous and this is why they will get the
animal.
